Biography

Born Rodolfo Barreras to filmmaker Rolando Barreras and local actress Ana Rodríguez, Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Nava entered music during the late '70s by composing "A Quién Vas a Engañar" for Wilkins and later supplying Yolandita Monge with "Al Ritmo de la Fantasia" plus Charytín's "Se Acabó el Amor." After forming his own Latin rock band, Rodolfo Barreras undertook his first U.S. tours. Returning to his native Puerto Rico, Nava—whose name translates as new love in an aboriginal language—initiated the Mazara Nava project and recorded an album containing "Si Tú Supieras," which Pedro Fernández later covered. Working alongside Ednita Nazario, Olga Tañón, and additional Latin artists, Nava released his self-titled album in 2000, highlighted by the hit single "El Amor los Tres."
