Ned LeDoux emerged as a country singer and songwriter whose style reflects both his inherited traditions and his personal artistic direction. He first performed as a member of his father's ensemble before pursuing an independent path. As the offspring of rodeo titleholder and cowboy vocalist Chris LeDoux, Ned assumed leadership of the elder LeDoux's band following the 2005 passing of its founder. He later established his solo identity through the 2017 release Sagebrush. Subsequent projects such as Next in Line in 2019 and Buckskin in 2022 allowed him to examine varied aspects of his musical identity, ranging from rock-infused country to traditional outlaw forms. For the 2024 single "One Hand in the Riggin'," LeDoux constructed a posthumous duet by pairing his vocals with an archival recording from his father.

Raised in Kaycee, Wyoming, Ned LeDoux approached his profession without considering alternative occupations. He joined Western Underground, his father's touring ensemble, in 1998 and assumed drumming responsibilities after KW Turnbow sustained injuries in a car crash. Following Chris LeDoux's death from cancer in 2005, Ned remained with the group and eventually added guitar while interpreting several of his father's signature compositions. Recognizing both his ability and his striking vocal resemblance to their former frontman, the band members shifted him from the drum kit to center stage.

LeDoux chose to launch a solo career in 2015. After searching through collections of his father's unfinished material for creative direction, he traveled to Nashville alongside producer Mac McAnally—who had overseen Chris LeDoux's final two albums—and began recording the tracks that formed his debut EP. That project, Forever a Cowboy, appeared in December 2016. His first full-length album, Sagebrush, arrived in late 2017 and reached number 38 on the Billboard Country Albums chart. Next in Line, issued in 2019, continued the approach of its predecessor by merging rugged, rock-oriented country textures with memorable melodies and reflective passages.

Buckskin, LeDoux's third solo album from 2022, merged classic outlaw country with the Western rodeo style featured on his father's recordings. Incorporating an unused vocal performance from Chris LeDoux, he contributed his own part to "One Hand in the Riggin'" and thereby produced a distinctive father-and-son duet. Issued in late 2024, the track initiated the promotional cycle for his forthcoming album Safe Haven.
