Biography
Casey Donahew has established his presence across the Texas Red Dirt scene by drawing equally from classic rock and rugged country roots. Constantly on the road with his own group through Texas and Oklahoma, he steadily built larger crowds while favoring rowdy anthems such as the early standout “White Trash Story.” A softer touch appeared on the melodic “Kiss Me,” which marked his debut country chart entry in 2017. Two years afterward, One Light Town entered the marketplace and opened at number two on the Billboard Country Album Sales tally. The boisterous, honky-tonk-styled Built Different arrived in 2022, followed in 2024 by Never Not Love You.
Raised in Burleson, Texas, within the Dallas-Fort Worth region, Donahew began performing in neighborhood venues during 2002. His concerts gradually took on a Springsteen-inspired intensity for the area’s younger bar patrons, sustaining high energy across extended sets that occasionally featured country-rock renditions of “Ice Ice Baby” and 50 Cent’s “In da Club.” Noticed by Pam Minick of the landmark Billy Bob’s club, he received a headlining booking that drew his college-aged following along. That demographic aligned with his independent “Donahew-It-Yourself” outlook; after issuing Lost Days in 2005, he matched internet sales with those at shows. The track “Stockyards,” which referenced several Fort Worth landmarks, later served as the theme song for the city’s Brahmas hockey team. Joined by guitarist Brent Wall, bassist Steve Stone, and drummer Taz, he released the self-titled The Casey Donahew Band in 2006. The rowdy concert recording Live-Raw-Real, In the Ville came out in 2008, and the following year Moving On cracked the Billboard Country Albums chart at number 28. Maintaining focus on his Texas and Oklahoma supporters while applying steady promotion, he climbed further when Double-Wide Dream reached number ten on the Country Albums list and number 32 on the Billboard 200 in 2011. StandOff improved on that result in 2013, peaking at number seven on the country survey and widening his touring footprint into additional southern and western markets.
For the 2016 project All Night Party, Donahew enlisted outside producer Josh Leo—previously associated with Alabama, Love and Theft, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band—for the first time. The set yielded “Kiss Me,” which rose to number 49 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, along with the modest hit “Country Song” at number 54. In 2017 he issued the retrospective 15 Years: The Wild Ride, featuring fresh recordings of earlier material. He rejoined Leo for the charting One Light Town in 2019, then returned in early 2022 with Built Different, whose title track served as a boisterous honky-tonk single. Hooks and emotion remained central on 2024’s Never Not Love You, which featured Kylie Frey on “Whiskey Talkin’” and Pat Green, Randy Rogers, and Wade Bowen on “Running out of Time.”
