Nelson Ângelo launched his professional path in 1966 through ties to the Minas Gerais songwriting circle Clube da Esquina, whose members placed his composition "Fazenda" on Milton Nascimento’s album Clube da Esquina. Together with Nascimento he penned "Sacramento," later featured on Milagres dos Peixes, and "Testamento," which appeared on Clube da Esquina No. 2. The following year he relocated to Rio de Janeiro and resumed live work across multiple stages. Serving as sideman to Tom Jobim, Miúcha, Alaíde Costa, Sarah Vaughan, Elis Regina, Sérgio Mendes, Luís Eça, Luiz Bonfá, Milton Nascimento, Chico Buarque, and Edu Lobo, he toured France, England, Norway, Mexico, the U.S., Uruguay, and Belgium while contributing to numerous recordings. In partnership with Cacaso he created the musical Táxi along with fifty additional songs. While residing in Paris he cut the albums Mineiro Pau and Naná Vasconcelos, Nelson Ângelo & Novelli (1974).
