Biography
N.Flying, the South Korean alternative rock outfit whose name stands for New Flying, came together in 2013 beneath the FNC Entertainment umbrella and first reached broad audiences through the 2019 single “Rooftops.”
The band began as a quartet of Seunghyub (Lee Seung-hyub, serving as leader, main rapper, lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and pianist), Kwangjin (Kwon Kwang-jin on bass and vocals), Hun (Cha Hun on lead guitar and vocals), and Jaehyun (Kim Jae-hyun on drums). Their earliest release, the single “Basket,” appeared in Japan soon after formation. Korean listeners first encountered the group in early 2015 via the EP Awesome; three-song LP Lonely followed in October. The lineup grew to five members in 2017 with the arrival of Hweseung (Yoo Hwe-seung, main vocalist), who debuted on the EP The Real: N.Flying. Two further EPs appeared in 2018: The Hottest: N. Flying and How Are You? Kwangjin exited the group amid controversy shortly after the latter release and was succeeded in early 2020 by bassist/vocalist Dongsung (Seo Dong Sung). Early 2019 brought the chart-topping single “Rooftops,” which led both Korean and Japanese rankings. EP Spring Shining followed in April, then Yaho in October. Brotherhood, the band’s first full-length Japanese album, surfaced earlier that spring.
