Biography
Scottish singer Nicholas McDonald first gained widespread attention as runner-up on the tenth season of the British talent showcase The X Factor. A rare heart ailment triggered a life-threatening cardiac arrest when he was eight, prompting him to channel his energies into music after football became impossible. At twelve he performed on Simon Cowell’s Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, and four years afterward, while still attending high school in Wishaw, Scotland, he auditioned for The X Factor’s 2013 edition. He advanced through every round, delivering notable renditions of Five for Fighting’s “Superman (It’s Not Easy)” and Jason Mraz’s “I Won’t Give Up,” ultimately finishing second to winner Sam Bailey. In January 2014 McDonald secured a recording contract with RCA Records, and his debut album, In the Arms of an Angel, appeared the following March.
