Amelia Lily earned third place during season eight of the British competition series The X Factor. Born in Nunthorpe, Middlesbrough, England, she began sharing her music as a high-school student by uploading vocal performances to YouTube. Her robust delivery drew comparisons to Christina Aguilera. In 2011, at age sixteen, she auditioned with Erma Franklin’s “Piece of My Heart” in front of judges Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos, and Kelly Rowland, who became her mentor. Rowland eliminated her during the program’s first live episode. Lily kept performing in clubs until public votes restored her spot after Frankie Cocozza’s disqualification. Over the course of her renewed run she twice topped the viewer tally and twice landed in the bottom two, advancing to the finale against Marcus Collins and eventual winners Little Mix. After completing the X Factor tour she secured a recording agreement with Xenomania, an imprint of Sony Records. Her debut single “You Bring Me Joy” appeared in September 2012 and opened at number two on the U.K. singles chart. First slated for April 2013, her opening album Be a Fighter was later deferred to an undetermined date.
