Biography
Greek singer Nikos Ikonomopoulos emerged as one of the country’s most productive and esteemed pop artists following his stint on a reality television competition. Born in 1984 on the outskirts of Patras, he performed regularly in that city throughout his childhood. Until his early twenties he balanced multiple jobs to sustain his musical ambitions, continuing to do so even after he began appearing at venues across Northern Greece. His first major break arrived in 2006 when he joined the cast of the Greek program Dream Show: The Music 2 and ultimately claimed victory, propelling his visibility nationwide. The following year he issued his debut album, Proti Agapi, which earned widespread praise. In 2008 he reinforced his profile with the follow-up Akousa…, an effort that earned him the Best New Artist trophy at the MAD Video Music Awards. For his third release, 2009’s Katathesi Psihis, he joined the roster of Minos, the Greek division of EMI. Over the ensuing six years he maintained a near-annual schedule of well-received studio albums, culminating in his ninth effort, Ena Mikrofono Ki Ego, which appeared in 2015.
