Sakis Rouvas

Sakis Rouvas first drew public notice as a pole-vaulter on the Hellenic National Team before rising to become one of Greece’s foremost pop artists. The Polygram record label discovered him in 1991 and moved swiftly to secure his signature. Across the following years, numerous Rouvas singles reached high placements on the Greek charts. In 1997 he joined Turkish pop star Burat Kud onstage at a concert intended to advance reconciliation between Greece and Turkey, an appearance that earned him the International Ipekci Prize for understanding and cooperation. Greece chose his song “Shake It” as the country’s entry for the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest.
