Hailing from London, this pair fuses grime, punk, and intense rock through an independent approach that fostered lasting momentum and elevated their sophomore album, Supernova, into the upper tiers of the U.K. charts in 2022.

Vocalist and guitarist Amy Love, born to an Iranian mother and Nigerian father and raised initially in Essex, connected closely with bassist Georgia South after Love relocated to the capital; South, who grew up in Lewisham in South East London, traces U.K. birth to her parents, with her mother’s lineage extending to Jamaica and her father—the neo-classical musician William South—linked to Australian roots. Following South’s shift from piano instruction to bass lessons, the two participated in separate musical ventures, sometimes appearing as guests in each other’s groups, before establishing BRAATS in 2014. A lone single under that name preceded their natural transition into Nova Twins, whose early self-released tracks attracted Rob Hallett and prompted the 2016 self-titled EP as the first issuance on his Robotunes label.

Nova Twins issued two further self-released EPs in 2017—Thelma and Louise and Mood Swings—while joining rap-rock supergroup Prophets of Rage on international dates. Additional singles led to collaboration with producer Jim Abbiss, recognized for prior work alongside Adele, Arctic Monkeys, and Kasabian, ahead of a 2019 tour supporting Jason Aalon Butler’s rapcore outfit Fever 333. The act’s imprint, 333 Wreckchords Crew, signed the duo and issued their Abbiss-produced debut full-length, Who Are the Girls?, in February 2020. That June, the pair assembled Voices for the Unheard, a charity collection spotlighting alternative rock by artists of color. Remixes of “Undertaker” and “Bullet” arrived in 2021 courtesy of Fever 333 and Dream Wife, accompanied by live performances alongside Bring Me the Horizon and Enter Shikari. Later that year, they aligned with the label division of amp manufacturer Marshall in advance of Supernova.
