Biography
October 31 emerged in 1996 as a band committed to preserving the foundational principles of heavy metal without embracing later subgenre shifts or compromises. This stance helped cultivate a loyal underground audience while simultaneously limiting their broader exposure. King Fowley, already known from Deceased, established the group in Arlington, Virginia, alongside guitarist Brian "Hellstorm" Williams, whose résumé also includes ChainGunn and various other underground acts, and bassist Jim Hunter, recognized for his work with Twisted Tower Dire and While Heaven Wept. Subsequent lineups incorporated guitarists Kevin Lewis and Jason Tedder, drummer Dave Castillo from Deceased, and, temporarily, vocalist Tony Taylor of Twisted Tower Dire and Isen Torr. Through these shifts the band maintained a steady output of self-released material, beginning with The Fire Awaits You in 1997 and continuing with the 1998 EP Visions of the End, Meet Thy Maker in 1999, the 2003 live recording Stagefright, the 2004 EP Red Hot, No Survivors in 2005, and the Poland-exclusive compilation Heavy Metal Warlocks in 2008.
