Biography
In the mid-1960s, Os Gatos ranked among the most popular bossa nova ensembles even though the group issued only two albums. This gathering of standout musicians comprised Durval Ferreira, who served as leader and guitarist, together with pianist Eumir Deodato, bassist Sergio Barroso, and drummer Wilson das Neves. Deodato’s strong arranging abilities shaped the band’s debut release into a landmark of Brazilian popular music. Aquele Som Dos Gatos appeared in 1966; although it closed the group’s recording career, its members went on to deepen their presence in the jazz and samba communities of Brazil and the United States through the 1960s and 1970s, most notably Deodato and das Neves.
