Biography
Out Hud came together in California's Bay Area back in 1996 and have specialized in an intricate yet groove-oriented strain of indie rock that draws from disco, dub, and post-punk traditions. Ahead of issuing their first full-length on Kranky in 2002, the band put out several singles and EPs pressed exclusively on vinyl through Red Alert, Dead Turtle, GSL, and 5 Rue Christine, cultivated a modest grassroots audience via performances that routinely got typically stationary indie crowds moving, and shifted their base to New York. The lineup features bassist Nic Offer, cellist Molly Schnick, guitarist Tyler Pope, and drummer/vocalist Phyllis Forbes, with mixing board operator Justin van der Volgen providing additional support. Offer, Pope, and van der Volgen also play together in !!! (pronounced "chk chk chk"). Kranky put out the band's sophomore effort, Let Us Never Speak of It Again, in early 2005.
