Page McConnell first gained recognition for his work on piano and keyboards with Phish. Born on May 17, 1963, in Philadelphia, PA, he relocated with his family to Basking Ridge, NJ, in 1969. At age four he started taking piano lessons, and by seventh grade he was performing in local ensembles. From 1982 to 1984 he studied at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, before transferring to Goddard College in Vermont, where he earned his degree in 1987. While enrolled there he performed with several regional groups, among them Love Goat, Pueblo Fever, and Tom's Sub Shop, as well as Phish, which he joined officially in 1985. Over the following fifteen years he played, recorded, and toured with the band. In 2001 McConnell assembled the electronic trio Vida Blue alongside Oteil Burbridge and Russell Batiste; the ensemble issued two albums—Vida Blue in 2002 and The Illustrated Band in 2003—before disbanding. His first solo effort, the self-titled Page McConnell, appeared on Legacy Records in 2007.
