Hailing from North Carolina, Big Something blends the grooves of funk and rock with bright pop tunes to produce a lively, improvisation-focused style incorporating brass sections, stringed instruments, electronic keys, and layered vocals. The six-piece group from Burlington came together in 2009 and issued their first album, Stories from the Middle of Nowhere, in 2010. After gaining experience through extensive roadwork over the next few years, the ensemble put out a self-titled second album in 2013 that earned praise from jam scene outlets including Endless Boundaries radio and the Home Grown Music Network. Continuing their live performances and expanding their audience across the country, they delivered Truth Serum as their third effort toward the end of 2014, supporting acts such as Robert Randolph, Umphrey's McGee, and the B-52's along the way. Teaming up once more with producer John Custer, the band captured material for Tumbleweed, their fourth full-length studio project, which came out in February 2017.
