Paris, Texas

In late 1997 the Madison, Wisconsin emo five-piece Paris, Texas came together. Its founding members were vocalist Scott Sherpe, guitarist Matt Managan and drummer Sam Vinz; guitarists Nick Zinkgraf and bassist Matt Tennessen soon joined, rounding out the quintet. The group cut its first demo in 1998 alongside Rainer Maria’s Kyle Fischer, then appeared on a split single alongside Baby I’m a Star. After that, the band inked a deal with Polyvinyl and delivered a self-titled EP, followed in fall 1999 by the album So You Think It’s Hot Here? A year afterward came the release of Brazilliant.
