Biography
Washington, D.C. gave rise to Partyline in 2003, with vocalist Allison Wolfe, guitarist Angela Melksethian, and drummer Crystal Bradley comprising the lineup. Every track among the six on the band's self-titled 2005 debut EP for Retard Disco addresses social injustice and discontent from a girls-with-glasses vantage point, underscoring the group's political stance, yet its strongest trait lies in sustaining the rapid-fire intensity of classic punk. Riot grrrl edge colors the material, as captured in the lines "I don't wanna marry/I don't wanna have your brats/Yeah I had a mother/She taught me to want more than that", even while a no-nonsense Ramones-era attitude surfaces; the members assembled not solely to effect change but to deliver high-energy rock. Earlier affiliations include Bratmobile for Wolfe, Hott Beat for Melksethian, and the Applicators for Bradley.
