Pearla

Nicole Rodriguez, a Brooklyn-based singer and songwriter, records under the name Pearla in tribute to her grandfather’s surname as a working musician. Her indie folk-pop material, intimate and imaginative in tone, regularly weaves in strings, horns, and dissonant electronics. Alongside frequent collaborator and co-producer Tyler Postiglione she issued her first EP, Quilting & Other Activities, in 2019. Spacebomb Records took note of her inventive, off-kilter sensibility—anchored in the surrealist corners of the natural world and recalling the work of Will Oldham, Björk, Joni Mitchell, Aldous Harding, and Sharon Van Etten—and released her debut full-length. Appearing in 2023, Oh Glistening Onion, The Nighttime Is Coming presented Rodriguez’s poignant, enigmatic songs on mortality, intimacy, and personal freedom.
