Biography
From his earliest memories, Pepe Romero has been devoted to the guitar, first appearing in public at the age of seven. His father, the legendary guitarist Celedonio Romero, served as his sole instructor. Pepe joined Celedonio and his brothers Celin and Angel to found the Romeros Quartet. Building on Celedonio’s established fame in Spain, the ensemble embarked on worldwide tours that soon established them as the most renowned guitar group internationally. This platform enabled Pepe Romero to secure recognition as one of the foremost guitar virtuosos of his time. He has issued more than fifty recordings and performed thousands of concerts, maintaining a repertoire that covers the complete body of guitar literature. His exceptional technique and bold, dramatic style have prompted several composers, including Joaquin Rodrigo, Federic Moreno Torroba, Lorenzo Palomo, and his father Celedonio Romero, to compose major works for him. As a soloist he has appeared with nearly every leading orchestra and in virtually every major concert hall throughout Europe and the Americas. Romero is widely regarded as the foremost Spanish guitar virtuoso and remains one of the most popular concert performers on the instrument.
