Biography
Per Gudmundson, a Swedish fiddler and bagpipe player, fuses the traditional music of his homeland with jazz's contemporary improvisational qualities, yielding a distinctive sound as a member of the Nordic jazz trio Frifot, a solo player, or a collaborator. His first US appearance came on the 1993 collection Scandinavian Valley Music, followed the next year by a contribution to Nordan, the album from Frifot bandmate Lena Willemark. Summersong, Frifot's 1999 release, introduced the group to American listeners, the same year Gudmundson featured on the Nordic Folk Instruments and Violins Of Europe compilations.
