Peter Salett distinguished himself on the bustling New York City club circuit through his knack for fusing memorable pop melodies with an accessibly experimental blend of rock, folk, soul, and country. Regular appearances at venues including Irving Plaza, Tramps, the Bowery Ballroom, Fez, and Mercury Lounge built his reputation, and these performances together with his self-produced 1997 debut, Paintings of These Days, drew notice from the film world. Before long his songs surfaced on soundtracks for Hurricane Streets, Other Voices, and Academy Award nominated actor Edward Norton's hit directorial debut, Keeping the Faith. The latter featured two Salett compositions, among them a prominently featured T-Bone Burnett remix of the title track from his second independent release, Heart of Mine. Hollywood Records issued that song as the soundtrack single, giving Salett's music exposure to a broader audience than before.
