Biography
Hailing from Seattle, the five-piece outfit known as Pickwick weaves soul textures through its distinctive brand of indie rock. That fusion of rhythmic drive and melodic craft surfaced clearly across the 2013 debut album Can't Talk Medicine and its 2017 follow-up, LoveJoys. The group began as a folk ensemble led by Galen Disston and Matthew Emmett; around 2008 the pair redirected its sound toward soul, enlarging the lineup into a quintet by recruiting Garrett Parker, Michael Parker, and Cassady Lillstrom. Producer Kory Kruckenberg guided three 7" singles issued in 2011; those sides were later gathered on the EP Myths, which preceded the self-released Covers EP in 2013. Later that year Small Press/Dine Alone issued the full-length Can't Talk Medicine, again produced by Kruckenberg. After Emmett departed following that release, Alex Westcoat assumed his role, and the band enlisted Erik Blood—previously known for his work with Shabazz Palaces—to helm the sophomore album LoveJoys, which appeared in summer 2017.
