Biography
In 1992 the macho rap-metal quintet Pimpadelic assembled in Fort Worth, Texas, when vocalist/guitarist Donnie "Easy Jesus" Franks and drummer Charles "Madison" Winchell decided to start the band. The pair had spent their youth in the neighboring town of Blue Mound and carried some of the swagger from the country music that surrounded them growing up. After four years of shifting membership, the group stabilized with the addition of Sean "DJ MIA" Baker, rapper Brandon Kord "Dirty K" Murphy, and bassist E.J. "Cha Chi R. Cola" Cernosek Jr. Pimpadelic issued its debut album Barely Legal in 1996 and followed it in 1998 with Statutory Rap, a release the band backed with steady club dates in Los Angeles. After signing with Tommy Boy they reworked their independently issued 1999 album Southern Devils into a denser, heavier version that reached stores in spring 2000 under the title Southern Devils 2000.
