Brotha Lynch Hung entered the world as Kevin Mann in Sacramento, California, and established himself as a skilled solo rapper who also maintained a strong reputation behind the boards. After teaming with Master P on the 1993 EP 24 Deep, he struck out independently to deliver his first full-length project under his own name, the 1995 album Season of da Siccness. Production credits on Master P’s I’m Bout It, E-40’s Southwest Riders, and Mr. Serv-On’s Life Insurance occupied him for a stretch before he refocused on his own catalog. Momentum generated by Master P’s commercial breakthrough in mid-1997 helped carry Brotha Lynch Hung’s second album, Loaded, into stores that same year. EBK4 surfaced in 2000, followed the next summer by the simultaneous arrival of Blocc Movement and Virus. Appearances: Book 1 reached listeners in spring 2002, with the Plague DVD appearing a few months later. Dinner and a Movie arrived in 2010 via Tech N9ne’s Strange Music imprint, then gave way the following year to another conceptual set, Coathanga Strangla. Both releases centered on the day-to-day existence of a serial killer.
