Gregory Fernan Hutchinson, the nephew of R&B singer Willie Hutch, performs under the rap alias Cold 187um as the frontman of the early-'90s hip-hop crew Above the Law. That group stood at the center of California gangsta rap's surge in the wake of N.W.A, launching with the 1990 debut Livin' Like Hustlers and sustaining momentum across the full decade. Closing out the '90s, Cold 187um issued his debut solo project, 1999's Executive Decisions, via West World Records—the same imprint behind his 2004 effort Live from the Ghetto and 2008's Fresh Out the Pen. His ties to Insane Clown Posse trace back to a 2002 guest spot on the duo's album The Wraith: Shangri-La; after joining them on the road in 2011, he revealed his signing to their Psychopathic label the following year. Adopting the moniker "the Psychopathic Assassin," he delivered the concept album The Only Solution on Psychopathic in 2012.
