Kam's angst-driven hardcore rap, distinguished by an unusually direct sociopolitical perspective uncommon among West Coast rappers, received scant attention across the 1990s despite his early ties to Ice Cube. Output arrived at irregular intervals, starting with a track on the Boyz N the Hood soundtrack, followed by the solo debut Neva Again (1993, Atlantic) and then the overlooked second album Made in America (1995, East West). After pausing in the late '90s for other pursuits, he reemerged in 2001 on the independent Hard Tyme Records via Kamnesia, an ambitious return that added a touch of club-friendly appeal to his hardcore rhymes.
