Biography
Beyond her work as a singer and songwriter, Portia Nelson has built careers as an actress, author, painter, and photographer. Her stage résumé includes numerous Broadway productions, while she also hosted the radio program Sunday in New York and took supporting roles in the films The Sound of Music, Dr. Doolittle, and The Trouble with Angels as well as the daytime serial All My Children. Nelson wrote the volume There's a Hole in My Sidewalk, which she later adapted into a musical for which she supplied the music, lyrics, direction, and a performance of her own. The 1993 inauguration of President Clinton featured a performance of her song "Make a Rainbow."
