Born Nils Mårten Ed on April 28, 1976, in Västerås, Sweden, Promoe first entered the music scene as a member of the Västerås-formed trio Looptroop, later known as Looptroop Rockers. The group, assembled in 1991, also includes Supreme, born Mattias Lundh-Isen, and Embee, born Magnus Bergkvist. After issuing demo recordings titled Superstars in 1993, Threesicksteez in 1995, and From the Waxcabinet in 1996—the last of which appeared commercially as their initial EP—Looptroop followed with additional EPs between 1996 and 1998. Their first proper album, Modern Day City Symphony, arrived in 2000 on the David vs. Goliath imprint and yielded the singles “Ambush in the Night” and “Long Arm of the Law,” registering modest chart success. Promoe then issued his own debut solo set, Government Music, in 2001 through the same label, placing inside the Swedish Top 40. Subsequent releases saw both the collective’s The Struggle Continues in 2002 and Promoe’s The Long Distance Runner in 2003 climb into the Top 20, while Fort Europa in 2005 and White Man’s Burden in 2006 advanced to the Top Ten. In 2007 Promoe supplemented his catalog with the DVD Standard Bearer, packaged with an accompanying CD. Looptroop’s fourth album, Good Things, reached the Top Five in 2008, matched the following year by Promoe’s Kråksången—his first full-length project recorded entirely in Swedish—which likewise peaked in the upper five. That same year the single “Svennebanan” ascended to number one on the Swedish singles chart, marking Promoe’s strongest commercial performance to date.
