Biography
The rap supergroup draws its name from the Queens, New York housing complex renowned for producing some of the east coast’s most influential producers and MCs. One of the project’s most celebrated figures, Nas, formed the collective to inaugurate his Ill Will Records imprint during autumn 2000. Capone, Mobb Deep, MC Shan, Marley Marl, Nature, Cormega, Roxanne Shanté, and several unheralded MCs appeared alongside Nas on the album. Veterans Shan and Marl lent studio assistance to a reworking of their 1986 b-boy classic ‘The Bridge’, while Shanté returned to the booth for ‘We Live This’. The deliciously salacious ‘Oochie Wally’ also appeared on the project, emerging first as an underground hit before crossing over to the national charts the following year.
