Biography
Randall Goosby, the violinist, has collected a striking array of prizes and milestones over the course of his career. Advancing the presence of African-Americans within classical music forms a central goal of his artistic life.
He first took up the violin in 2004 at the age of seven. At thirteen, in 2010, he claimed first prize in the junior division of the Sphinx Concerto Competition and received Sphinx’s Isaac Stern Award. That recognition opened doors to further high-profile opportunities, among them private study with Itzhak Perlman and Catherine Cho as well as a multi-album contract on Decca. Goosby completed both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at Juilliard, where he held the Kovner Fellowship. He has appeared as soloist with leading orchestras throughout the United States and in London. His first album, Roots, issued in 2021, paid homage to earlier generations of African-American composers and the obstacles they encountered amid racism and the prevailing social conditions of their eras.
