Emerging from Poland during the opening years of the 1990s, the alternative rock outfit Raz, Dwa, Trzy (One, Two, Three) defies easy classification by weaving folk, rock, and jazz textures across an eclectic array of instruments that includes clarinet, piano, accordion, guitars, double bass, drums, and assorted percussion, yet retains sufficient directness to earn regular nods at annual award events and consistent chart traction with every new recording. The group secured a deal with the global imprint EMI and issued its debut album in 1992. Across subsequent decades the ensemble has performed in multiple nations, completed extensive Polish tours, and captured the nation’s premier music honor—the Fryderyk Award for Best Album in the Alternative Music Category—in 1999 for the release Niecud. Raz, Dwa, Trzy (Adam Nowak, vocals and guitars; Grzegorz Szwalek, clarinet, accordion, and electric piano; Jarek Trelinkski, guitars; Mirek Kowalik, bass; and Jacek Olejarz, drums) returned to the summit of the Polish charts in 2007 with the album Mlynarski.
