Rejjie Snow, functioning as rapper, vocalist, and songwriter, constructs his tracks via unexpected pathways, weaving disco rhythms together with jazz-tinged accents and guitar samples processed through psychedelic effects inside his fluid instrumentals. Born Alex Anyaegbunam in Dublin, Ireland during 1993, Snow spent a brief interval at college in the United States before returning to Dublin in 2012 with the explicit aim of building a music career. Kaya Kaya Records issued his debut EP, Rejovich, in summer 2013, foregrounding laid-back production indebted to RZA and a versatile lyrical approach; the project earned swift and broad praise while generating rapid online sales and notice. Snow’s output expanded gradually over the following years through scattered singles and videos that fueled growing demand for a complete album from the emerging MC. In 2016 he joined the roster of 300 Entertainment, an Atlantic Records subsidiary, and confirmed that a full-length album was in development. Multiple singles plus the mixtape The Moon & You appeared ahead of the debut album Dear Annie, which centered on themes of love and loss while embedding repeated references to the well-known musical Annie. Released in three installments, the four-song Dear Annie, Vol. 1 surfaced in January 2018; Dear Annie followed in full the next month and included guest contributions from Anna of the North, Dana Williams, and additional artists. Snow subsequently concentrated on standalone singles for several years. The jazzy “Purple Tuesday,” already featured on The Moon & You two years prior, appeared as a single in 2019 with guest spots from Jesse Boykins III and Joey Bada$$. Three further tracks—“Cookie Chips,” “Mirrors,” and “Relax”—arrived in 2020, each surpassing one million streams. In June 2021 Snow issued the new song “Disco Pantz,” departing briefly from his downtempo hip-hop style to pursue a propulsive dance rhythm and sharper production choices.
