Biography
Rocket Science burst onto the scene from Melbourne during the middle of 1998, riding the wave created by the Vines. Formed as an indie rock quartet featuring Roman Tucker handling vocals, Kit Warhurst on drums, Dave Gray playing bass, and Paul Maybury on guitar, the members had nurtured ambitions of musical success from their earliest years. Their sound blends gritty glam rock elements with an edge sharper than the Vines' sugary punk approach. The track "Welcome Aboard" marked their initial composition, penned on the very day the group assembled. An Australian audience grew steadily from that point, eventually expanding to include supporters in the U.K. Tours supporting Mudhoney and the Supersuckers extended through 2000, paving the way for the release of their first album, Welcome Aboard the 3C10, in the following year. The band's sleazy and arrogant aesthetic generated significant excitement persisting into 2002, the period during which they captured their second album, Contact High. Although European distribution was delayed until the middle of 2003, the electric Run Like a Gun EP provided interim relief for enthusiasts when it surfaced in the preceding spring.
