Biography
The origins of End of Fashion lie in Perth, Western Australia, where vocalist Justin Burford and guitarist Rodney Aravena first collaborated inside the Sleepy Jackson before leaving to develop material they had created apart from that project. They formed the rock quartet by bringing in drummer Mike Hobbs and bassist Hugh Jennings, with Nick Jonsson and Tom King later taking over those respective roles. Two EPs, Rough Diamonds and Too Careful, surfaced during 2004. Dennis Herring, whose credits include Modest Mouse and Elvis Costello, handled the early 2005 sessions that produced the band's infectious self-titled debut album. The lead single "O Yeah" originated when Burford wrote the track in one sitting after accepting a challenge to finish a song that fast. Issued in August 2005, the album reached gold certification in Australia and New Zealand and was subsequently licensed by EMI/Capitol for global release, arriving in the United States in May 2006. The group performed at the 2006 South by Southwest festival and devoted the remainder of March to a U.S. tour supporting Metric.
