Although Faker came together as an Australian band back in 1996, its first full-length recording did not surface until 2005, giving the outward impression of an extended struggle to reach that milestone. Throughout those intervening years the Sydney outfit stayed active, absorbing repeated personnel shifts while keeping vocalist Nathan Hudson as its constant center, and it placed two EPs on the airwaves of radio network Triple J in 2001. The long-awaited debut album Addicted Romantic then arrived, reaching number 44 on the national chart and earning a J Award nomination that justified the release of two further EPs later in 2005. The follow-up full-length Be the Twilight emerged in 2007; produced by Paul Fox, whose prior credits included XTC and Björk, the set became the group’s first to enter the Top 40, opening at number 37 on the Australian ARIA albums chart before advancing to number 24.
