The Brazilian singer Salomé de Bahia, residing in Paris, first gained worldwide recognition on dance floors thanks to Bob Sinclair. This innovative French music maker leads the diverse Yellow Productions imprint. During the mid-1990s, Sinclair visited a show organized by conductor Edvaldo Carneiro at the stylish Parisian venue known as Café Felix. Among forty performers originating from Bahia, Brazil, he found the lively Salomé de Bahia particularly captivating. He considered her an ideal addition to Reminiscence Quartet, the ensemble blending Brazilian elements that he was assembling at the time. Her contributions appeared on the quartet's Psycodelico release along with its European promotional tour. Sinclair included her on his 2001 album Africanism for the popular dance track "Tourment d'Amour." Salomé de Bahia issued her debut solo effort Cabaret in 2003. Its vibrant mix of bossa nova, samba, salsa, and disco-infused club numbers won favor with Gilles Peterson along with other influential figures, while the track "Outro Lugar," a Portuguese rendition of Stevie Wonder's "Another Star," took over dance floors everywhere. In 2005 she brought back her signature style with the album Brasil, marking her introduction to American audiences through Tommy Boy.
