Originating from Juazeiro, Bahia, where she entered the world on May 27, 1972, Brazilian axé music superstar Ivete Sangalo first captured widespread attention as lead vocalist of the Bahian ensemble Banda Eva during the 1990s before launching a thriving solo trajectory at the century’s turn. Standout recordings from her catalog include the period-defining anthem “Sorte Grande” along with “Festa.” Her recording career began in 1993 when she fronted the axé group Banda Eva on its self-titled Sony Music debut, which delivered the 1994 carnival sensation “Adeus Bye Bye.” Further Banda Eva projects issued while she remained the frontwoman comprise Pra Abalar (1994), Hora H (1995), Beleza Rara (1996), Banda Eva ao Vivo (1997), and Eva, Você e Eu (1998). After stepping away from Banda Eva at the height of its popularity, Sangalo issued her first solo album, the double-platinum Ivete Sangalo, in 1999; the blockbuster release received a Latin Grammy Award nomination. Additional solo albums encompass Beat Beleza (2000), Festa (2001), Clube Carnavalesco Inocentes em Progresso (2003), MTV ao Vivo (2004), As Super Novas (2005), and Multishow ao Vivo (2007). Of these, MTV ao Vivo proved especially noteworthy, surpassing two million copies sold and capturing a 2005 Latin Grammy Award. In 2008 she joined forces with then-current Banda Eva vocalist Saulo Fernandes to create the children’s music duo Veveta e Saulinho, which released the album A Casa Amarela.
