Crafting introspective indie pop and rock as a singer, songwriter, and producer, Sarah Kinsley infuses her work with insightful, imaginative, and dramatic qualities. Her distinctive artistic voice emerged through multiple EPs released during the early 2020s, which showcased guitar pop, lyrical balladry, synth pop, and orchestral rock. A cleverly assembled behind-the-scenes clip that circulated widely on TikTok propelled the lovestruck, time-traveling title track from her second EP, 2021's The King, to tens of millions of streams. Her first full-length project, Escaper, marked her major-label debut on Verve Forecast and Decca Records in 2024.

California-born and raised across Connecticut and Singapore, Sarah Kinsley received classical training on several instruments during childhood and was enrolled in music studies at Columbia University in New York at the time of her first EP, The Fall, issued in April 2020. The next year she posted a concise montage on TikTok that opened with the ironic voiceover, "Women don't produce music." The clip spread rapidly, exposing her song "The King" from June 2021's The King EP to an audience in the tens of millions. As her following expanded, she issued her third EP, Cypress, in 2022 and continued pursuing bolder production and arrangement choices that, in the vein of Mitski and Weyes Blood, highlighted the intense emotions and social observations within her lyrics.

Verve Forecast in the U.S. and Decca Records in the U.K. signed Kinsley in early 2023. Her first release for the labels was the single "Oh No Darling!" from her fourth EP, June 2023's Ascension. The buoyant lead single from her debut album, "Last Time We Never Meet Again," surfaced in June 2024, followed by the full Escaper on Verve and Decca that September.
