Anele Mbisha, performing as the South African rapper Saudi, entered the world in Senaone, a township of Soweto, into a household that possessed an extensive record collection and a deep affinity for music. Early fascination with Nina Simone and Michael Jackson steered him toward a career in the field, resulting in his first recording at age 13. Saudi became part of the rap collective O.V.L.O.E. in 2011, where he cultivated a personal approach he called "Japan Four," merging Afro sounds with trap and R&B. The South African label Ambitiouz added him to its roster, issuing the debut single "There She Go" in 2016. His first full-length project, D.R.U.G.S INC., appeared during the winter of 2017. The next year found the rapper contributing to the soundtrack for Black Panther, a project produced and shaped by Kendrick Lamar. 2 Chainz and Schoolboy Q feature on "X," while Saudi handled the greater portion of the verse on "Zulu."
