Hailing from Egypt, Sherine Abdel-Wahab, known professionally as Sherine, has built a career as a vocalist, screen actress, and one-time panelist on the televised singing contest The Voice. She entered the world in Cairo during 1980 and first explored singing while still in elementary school. Following encouragement from a teacher, her parents brought her to audition for Selim Sehab, conductor at the Cairo Opera House. Struck by her talent, Sehab extended an invitation to join the Cairo Opera Children’s Choir, where she performed and trained beginning at age nine. By her teenage years she had matured into a confident soloist and attracted the attention of producer and music executive Nasr Mahrous, who guided her transition into pop music. Several singles marked her 2000 debut, among them “Ah Ya Leil.” Her profile surged after Mahrous teamed her with singer Tamer Hosny on the 2002 release Free Mix3, a commercial triumph that moved more than 30 million copies and established her as a major star.

Around the same period she stepped into acting with a role in the 2003 film Mido Mashakel. A string of successful albums followed: Garh Tany in 2003, Lazem A’eesh in 2005, Bataminak in 2008, and Habeat in 2009. The 2012 studio album Esaal Alaya also performed strongly, reaching the top of regional charts throughout the Middle East. Subsequent projects included the 2014 release Ana Keteer and 2015’s Tareqe. During these years she additionally served as a judge on the Egyptian edition of The Voice. After departing the program in 2015, the mother of two daughters hinted at stepping away from entertainment entirely, yet she reemerged the next year with the single “Taira Mn el Farha.”
