Biography
Nancy Ajram emerged from Lebanon as one of the Arab world's leading pop figures during the early 2000s. Her debut effort, Mihtagalak, arrived via EMI in 1998 when she was fifteen and achieved modest regional traction, particularly strong sales in Lebanon and Egypt driven by the Top Ten domestic single "Mitagalak." A more substantial follow-up, Sheel Oyoonak Anni, appeared in 2001, yet the 2003 album Ya Salam delivered her first major commercial breakthrough, earning platinum certification across several markets thanks to the smash "Akhasmak Ah" and its widely viewed video. From that point she routinely commissioned multiple clips per project. The 2004 set Ah W Noss further elevated her profile, and the following year she became a brand ambassador for a major soft-drink company, paralleling rival vocalist Elissa's arrangement with a competing label. After departing EMI she issued Ya Tabtab...Wa Dallaa in 2006, which underperformed relative to prior releases, then pivoted briefly to family-oriented material with the 2007 children's album Shakhbat Shakhabit.
Launching her own In2Musica imprint, Ajram released Betfakkar Fi Eih?! in 2008, a project that sparked renewed commercial momentum and secured her the World Music Award for World's Best-Selling Middle Eastern Artist. Nancy 7 followed on the same label in 2010 and went multi-platinum in Lebanon, Egypt, and the UAE while surpassing six million copies sold worldwide. She returned to children's repertoire with Super Nancy in 2012 before resuming the numbered sequence with Nancy 8 in 2014. That album, assembled with multiple producers and blending dance-pop, ballads, and mainstream pop, entered the Billboard World Albums chart at number ten. Nancy 9 appeared on In2Musica in 2017, and Nancy 10—her twelfth studio album overall—arrived in 2021 accompanied by a high-visibility campaign in New York's Times Square. The subsequent non-album collaboration "Sah Sah" with Marshmello topped streaming rankings throughout the Middle East and became the first Arab recording to appear on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, where it reached number 38 for one week.
