Shoestring

Shoestring helped establish the Dayton Family alongside Bootleg and served as a driving force behind the ensemble’s swift rise inside the Midwestern hardcore rap underground. Legal difficulties soon curtailed that momentum after the crew delivered its second album, F.B.I. Undeterred, Shoestring secured a deal with Tommy Boy and issued his first solo project, Representin' Till the World Ends, in 1999. The release failed to satisfy Tommy Boy, leaving the Flint, MI, rapper without a contract. In early 2001 he joined Detroit rapper Esham’s Overcore imprint and unveiled his next album, Cross Addicted, which returned him to his street-level roots.
