Originating from Sevilla, the provocative rapper known as Shotta, or Ignacio Gonzáles Rodríguez by birth, entered the music scene under the guidance of his older sibling Tote King, himself a figure of considerable renown. The pair put out the demo XXL during 2000, followed by a maxi-single and the full-length Tu Madre Es una Foca in 2002, an album that set new sales benchmarks for Spanish hip-hop releases. Shotta issued his debut solo project, La Selva, two years later. By that point he had already secured his place as a leading voice in Spanish rap, drawing on contributions from prominent guests and producers alike. His signature approach relied on blunt profanity and biting wit, earning him particular notoriety for tirades aimed at religious institutions and law enforcement as well as odes celebrating self-pleasure. Yet with the arrival of his third record, Profundo, in 2011, the artist displayed growing depth and a sharper awareness of broader societal concerns.
