Sidney Magal ranks among the standout figures in brega music. He sets himself apart from most artists in the genre by winning acceptance from discerning listeners, who frame their response to his flamboyant, parodic Latin-lover persona as ironic enjoyment. After beginning his career with roles in soap operas, Magal rose to become one of the decade’s leading brega acts during the 1970s. Breakthrough success arrived in 1976 with “Se te Agarro com Outro te Mato,” soon followed by “Meu Sangue Ferve por Você.” The year after brought further recognition via “Amante Latino” (Rabito/Antônio Carlos). Another major hit came in 1979 with “Sandra Rosa Madalena” (Roberto Livi/Miguel Cidrás).
