Swedish singer/songwriter Skott crafts intricate progressive pop that emphasizes dreamy sonic textures alongside candid lyrical depth. Pauline Skott spent her childhood in the rural enclave of Vikarbyn, Sweden, a settlement distinguished by its longstanding rituals and unique local tongue. Because the community consisted largely of folk instrumentalists, she took up the violin while still very young. Contemporary sounds remained unknown to her until adolescence, when a visit to an urban center introduced her to Muse. An enthusiastic gamer at the time, she also immersed herself in video-game scores, inventing imaginary backdrops for titles such as Final Fantasy and Zelda. Eventually committing to a professional path, she enrolled at the Musikmakarna music school. Merging textures reminiscent of peers including Lorde, LÉON, and Susanne Sundfør, Skott debuted in 2016 with the double-sided single “Porcelain” b/w “Wolf.” Before the year closed she issued the follow-ups “Amelia” and “Lack of Emotion.” During 2017 she unveiled “Glitter & Gloss,” “Mermaid,” and “Remain” while sharing stages with MØ and Phantogram. The next year brought the EP Stay Off My Mind, containing four previously unheard songs, followed in 2019 by the single “Bloodhound.”
