Skylark emerged in the mid-'90s as an Italian hard rock/power metal project that quickly established worldwide reach under vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Eddy Antonini together with bassist Roberto "Brodo" Potenti. The group has issued more than twenty albums since its formation, several of which climbed into the Top Ten across South America and East Asia, territories where sustained popularity has remained a constant.

Eddy Antonini launched Skylark in 1994 with the aim of fusing his preferred genres—classical, pop music, progressive rock, heavy metal, and others—within one cohesive project. That vision materialized swiftly when Antonini joined vocalist Fabio Dozzo, guitarist Nico Tordini, bassist Roberto "Brodo" Potenti, and drummer Federico Ria to record the 1995 release Storm and the Horizon. Described as both a concept album and a rock opera, the effort established the pattern for the rapid succession of records that followed, among them 1997's Dragon's Secrets, 1998's After the Storm, and 1999's Belzebù. Antonini also managed to complete a solo outing, 1998's When Water Became Ice, before expanding Skylark's scope into a double-album undertaking titled The Divine Gates -- I: Gate of Hell (1999) and The Divine Gates -- II: Gate of Heaven (2000). The Princess' Day arrived in 2001, after which an extensive world tour carried the band to distant locations including Japan and Chile, prompting a subsequent hiatus.

Skylark returned in 2004 with the characteristically ambitious Wings, which brought guitarist Fabrizio Romani, drummer Carlos Cantatore, and vocalist Kiara Laetitia into the lineup. Beginning in 2010 the band has worked with international artists, broadened its stylistic range, and presented acoustic live performances.
