Biography
Donal Murphy, the Limerick-born accordionist and founding member of Four Men and a Dog, teams with County Cork fiddler Matt Cranitch to anchor Sliabh Notes, widely regarded as one of Ireland’s most compelling young ensembles anchored in tradition. The musicians reside amid the Sliabh Luachra uplands, the Cork-Kerry borderland celebrated for its characteristic slides and polkas, yet they navigate jigs, reels, slow airs, and songs with equal mastery. The Evening Echo described Murphy and Cranitch as “one of the finest and most electrifying Sliabh Luachra-style box and fiddle duos you could ever wish to hear,” while the Irish Times noted that “it is difficult not to be carried away by this music.” Their debut album, Gleanntan, issued in April 1999, showcased the pair with influential fiddler Padraig O’Keefe and Terry “Cuz” Teahan.
