Snowglobe

High-school friends Tim Regan and Brad Postlethwaite launched Snowglobe, whose sound follows psychedelic folk routes first opened by Gram Parsons and the Byrds and later taken up by Neutral Milk Hotel together with the rest of the Elephant 6 circle. After leaving Memphis, the pair settled in Athens, GA, home to the East Coast branch of Elephant 6, and gathered a lineup that featured bassist Brandon Robertson, drummer Jeff Hulett, and percussionist Brian Winterrowd. Winterrowd supplied the group’s name before leaving shortly afterward. The remaining members then returned to Memphis and began recording their debut album, Our Land Brains.

Although the band handled production themselves, the sessions drew on an expansive palette of pianos, strings, chimes, guitars, and organs, with extra players recruited from the University of Memphis music department. Bardot Records, an imprint of Makeshift Music, issued the album in May 2002. Makeshift Music also released several solo projects by band members, including two discs by Postlethwaite under the Youth Electronics name and an acoustic set recorded by Postlethwaite and Hulett titled In Association With the Administration.
