Biography
During their studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Matt Locher and Zach Coulter—the core of Solid Gold’s slick indie electro pop sound—first connected in 2000 via a mutual acquaintance assembling a band. The resulting trio cut an EP under the Solid Gold name before that member departed in 2004, with Adam Hurlburt stepping in to complete the lineup. Once stabilized, the group moved to Minneapolis in 2005, where the three members balanced day jobs as a cook, wine salesman, and bartender while performing locally and shaping their debut album. Bodies of Water arrived as a self-release in 2008 and quickly drew notice through the traction of “Who You Gonna Run To?,” targeted promotion, and repeated live appearances across Europe and the States, among them regular stops at South by Southwest and CMJ.
