Biography
For his solo endeavor Porcelain Raft, Mauro Remiddi, who works as a singer, songwriter, and producer, merges catchy indie pop tunes with ethereal, multi-layered soundscapes. Strange Weekend, the initial full-length issued under that name in 2012, climbed to number 33 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. Permanent Signal arrived the following year and introduced colder post-punk textures, whereas Come Rain, released in 2020, expanded outward from piano and classical guitar foundations.
Remiddi, born in Italy, launched his career by scoring the 1997 short film La Matta dei Fiori before forming the duo Three Blind Mice alongside Onyee Lo and joining the five-piece group Sunny Day Sets Fire; he also teamed with video artist Ra Di Martino and contributed to Filthy Dukes’ 2008 album Nonsense in the Dark.
The Porcelain Raft EP Gone Blind surfaced on Acephale in 2010, followed a year later by the self-released Fountain's Head; the project then issued its debut album Strange Weekend on Secretly Canadian in early 2012, which prompted European dates supporting M83 and North American shows with Smith Westerns. To sidestep recreating the sonic palette of that record, Remiddi sold much of his gear and delivered both the modular-synth instrumental EP Silent Speech and the song-oriented full-length Permanent Signal on Secretly Canadian in 2013, the latter captured at the Antlers’ studio alongside Darby Cicci rather than at home. Half Awake, an EP issued on his newly founded Volcanic Field imprint in 2015, inaugurated a run of self-released material that continued with the 2016 collection of unearthed 2006 demos titled Pressed Flowers and the third album Microclimate in 2017.
After moving from his long-term residence in Los Angeles to Rome, Porcelain Raft emerged from COVID-19 lockdown with the more introspective Come Rain in 2020.
